The Lady of the Lake
A story I was told so weird
that awoke my wildest fears
That haunts me truly to this day
I’ll tell you now - here’s what they say
There was a village far away
Once in which I stayed
So peaceful, quiet and serene
With nature - beautiful, unseen
There was a pretty lake but cursed
And those in it who did immerse
They disappeared, died forever
To save them - an impossible endeavour
“Beware of the water” read a sign
But they just said “I will be fine”
And all it took just dipping of their toes
”Pp” their destiny they chose
Only men the lake would take
The women left alone, they ached
The fools they never learned these years
and always put it to the test - no fear
A woman and a boy one day
were walking down the road, midday
From the market coming home
Her husband likely drunk alone
Suddenly there was a butterfly
Little Ollie ran to catch it, tried
But he stumbled and he fell
The water took him, she could tell
Clair was distraught, and screaming, crying
All these years she has been trying
To stay clear of the lake
To avoid the destiny heartache
From the depths a gurgling sound
“A little boy I found
“What do you want for him?” said Clair
“For your husband’s heart I care”
Her useless man she couldn’t kill
But the pig she thought “I will”
The heart she took straight to the lake
“Liar, Now your son I’ll take
In 10 days he will turn to stone
Btw your husband’s dead at home”
Clair cursed and cried and yelled
Is it possible to break the spell?
But how? Nobody ever could?
Then she thought somehow she should
On a quest she went alone
it was her job - her own
Sourcerers, and witches, trolls she asked
Impossible it seemed this task
And she went from door to door
Until she could no more
She dropped crying on the ground
That’s when a toad came round
That spoke to her “my dear”
I can help you - wipe your tears!
A fairy godmother I was once
The wrong spell cast by chance
Let’s go and break it, yes?
Said a woman in a huge black dress
Clair seemed confused a lot
But decided to give it a shot
“You see I needed mothers tears
I have been a toad for many years”
As they walked she told a story
And how much also she was sorry
A village woman once the prince enchanted
Strange ideas in his head were planted
The king he didn’t like it, no
So she got to have a go
Now its time to right the wrongs
It has been wrong for very long
In the castle they arrived
The prince stood there with a knife
The great great grand son of the man in question
who had run out of ideas, of suggestions
As to how to go to war with no men
That nobody to him would ever lend
He pricked his finger with a steady hand
Clair somehow didn’t understand
A tiny jar was handed at some point to her
The rest it was a blur
A Tuesday night - the moon was full
The summer breeze was getting cool
A drop of blood no more no less
A hair from the lady in black dress
What followed was a mess
I was scared I must confess
The lake was gurgling, and boiling
Writhing in a lot of pain, and coiling
Screaming in a terrible ungodly voice
Such abhorrent and disturbing noise
They say it made a hole
for eternity into your soul
And when it suddenly calmed down
There was woman lying on the ground
who whispered “sorry I was cursed”
her body in the air dispersed
The lost men suddenly they all appeared
Those loved, and hated, and the feared
That she collected though the years
But none of them evoked no mother’s tears
“You are forgiven” Clair said
And started searching for her son instead
Amidst the noisy crowd there was a cry
The speed of light she did defy
Little Ollie wet, confused
by a slimy rock, a little bruised
She picked him up, and kissed him and they cried
Its what you get for chasing butterflies
The villagers they looked in disbelief
There was no lake to cause them grief
‘The lady of the lake they called her now
Who broke the spell not knowing how
she got herself a real prince charming
who in his turn had found an army
The fairy godmother never intervened
And now herself she had redeemed
The village is still peaceful and serene
With nature beautiful, unseen
Though its very far away
Travellers go there every day
To heal their wounds and cleanse their soul
To feel loved, brand new and whole
With its magic waters it is known
The new lake that appeared home
I have learned that you can change
your destiny and also rearrange
your stars and I can tell
if you decide - you’ll break the spell
